CSE 6324, Section 981 - Advanced Topics in Software Engineering: Programming with Neural Networks and Large Language Models

Fall 2026, September 07 to October 14.
Instructor: Vassilis Athitsos
Lectures: Mondays, Wednesdays, and some Fridays, 9:25am-12:10pm China Time
Classrooms for lectures:

This course offers an introduction to programming with neural networks and large language models. Topics include multi-layer neural networks as computational models, PyTorch, convolutional neural networks, transfer learning, deep learning methods for image classification, and sequential learning models for analyzing text. We will also study how to integrate public large language models into our own systems, for tasks such as automated prompt engineering and zero-shot learning. A strong programming and algorithmic background is assumed, as well as familiarity with linear algebra (vector and matrix operations).

Prerequisites: Familiarity with linear algebra, probability and statistics, algorithms, programming in Python.
